Tethered Installations

Step 1. Before you Install

  • Map to the network drive.
  • Authorize your computer to use tethered software. Use your CAE username and password to gain access to CAE tethered licensing. Each authorization has a duration of 12 hours.

Step 2. Start the installer

  • The installer can either be downloaded from our campus server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered

Step 3. Choose the Installation Type. Select "Typical" or "Custom".

Step 4. Specify the Installation Directory.

Step 5. Specify License Servers. Enter 1780@fireball.cae.wisc.edu

  • If you have having problems connecting to the license server during this step, try connecting with WiscVPN then start the installation process.

Step 6. Select Language.

Step 7. Variable Activation The academic license bundle variable will need to be configured.

  • You can activate the variable through License Options in the start menu under Start --> All Programs --> UGS NX 4.0 --> NX Licensing Tools
  • under available bundles choose ACD and then click ADD

Note: In order for tethered software to function properly your workstation must be continuously connected to the network and the CAE license servers.

  • Fatal Error when attempting to start NX 4 or NX 3, once IE V7.0 is installed.

Solution/Workaround:

  1. Delete the %UGII_BASE_DIR%/ugii/psapi.dll file.
  2. Note: UGS provided the psapi.dll file for Windows NT compatibility. However, it is no longer needed since it is included in the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
  • If you have having problems connecting to the license server during Step 5 above, try connecting with WiscVPN then start the installation process.
  • In some instances we have found that you may need to configure an environmental variable: Set variable UGII_FLEX_BUNDLE to value ACD
