Tethered Software Old

From CAE Software

Jump to: navigation, search

Tethered software allows you to locally install and run some CAE owned and controlled software while your computer is connected to the network or Internet. Because you are running the software locally, the speed of your network connection does not effect software performance. Run software as if you were sitting at a CAE managed workstations and often faster.

[edit] How do I use Tethered Software?

It's Easy! Follow the three simple steps below. (Authorize, Install, and Run)

[edit] Authorize

Authorize your computer to use tethered software via the online Authorization web page. Use your CAE username and password to allow access to CAE tethered licensing. Each authorization has a duration of twelve hours. (See newuser to open your CAE account.)

[edit] Install

Install the software on the hard drive of your computer, following the software installation instructions from the links above. Get access to the installation media from either of these two options.

Below is a listing of the fully supported tethered software packages. You will find many more available on the CAE media server, kamino. For non-supported tethered software, CAE can help you with licensing configuration but you're on your own for any installation and usage issues. For a complete list of supported software see Category:Tethered Installation and non-supported software see Category:Tethered Software List.

[edit] Install Option B: Burn your own Media and Install

Using a CAE workstation, map a drive to the CAE media server (kamino), see above for details. Then burn your own installation media. Follow the installation instructions for the specific software package. (For supported tethered software follow the CAE on line installation instructions.)

[edit] Run!

Run the software from your local hard drive. All you will now need is an internet connection. (WiscVPN is only need for mapping the drive during installation.)

NOTE: Remember your computer must be continuously connected to the internet and authorized to run tethered software. The authorization expires after approximately twelve (12) hours. To extend beyond the initial period, just authorize again before end of the expiration time.
