Tethered Installations

Step 1. Before you Install

  • Map to the network drive.
  • Authorize your computer to use tethered software. Use your CAE username and password to gain access to CAE tethered licensing. Each authorization has a duration of 12 hours.

Step 2. Start the installer

  • The installation CD can be downloaded from our campus server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered

Step 3. Choose the installation directory

Step 4. Configure Licensing. Select "Enter license information now.", Indicate that this is a "Network License", and Enter fireball.cae.wisc.edu as the license server.

Step 5. Restart your machine and start using Mathematica 6.0

[edit] Authorize and Run

Note: In order for tethered software to function properly your workstation must be continuously connected to the network and the CAE license servers.

[edit] Additional Information

  • Installing Mathematica 6.0 on my Linux box and noticed some problems. Here is what I did to fix the problem:
The installer threw up an error and quit. The problem is some of the directories (in "Files") have files named contents.tgz instead of contents.tar.gz. For some reason the installer needs to see .tar.gz files. I copied the .tgz files to .tar.gz files and got rid of the error. Some directories have both .tgz and .tar.gz files; there is no difference between them, so I'm not sure why both are included.
