[edit] Tethered Installation Steps

Tethered Installations

Step 1. Before you Install:

  • Map a network drive to the CAE media server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered. NOTE: You must install WiscVPN to connect to CAE media server from off of the campus network.
  • Authorize your computer to use tethered software. Use your CAE username and password to gain access to CAE tethered licensing. Each authorization has a duration of 12 hours.

[edit] Windows Install:

Step 2. Run the Maple 12 Installer.

  • The installer (Maple12WindowsInstaller) can either be run directly from our campus media server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered or from a copy you have burned to your own CD.

Note: Windows users, make sure you select the Windows Installer within the Windows Folder, for some reason the one sitting alone just in the Maple 12 folder doesn't work sometimes.

  1. Introduction Select Next.
  2. Choose Install Folder Specify any directory, the default C:\Program Files\Maple 12 is fine.
  3. Choose components Select any of the three install sets. The Minimal Installation is sufficient for most course work.
  4. Install Desktop Shortcuts Select your preference.
  5. Maple Worksheet Association (skipped with Minimal Installation)
  6. 'Watcom Installation (skipped with Minimal Installation) Otherwise Select No, it is NOT recommended unless you have specific uses for these Maple features.
  7. Licensing Select Network License. THIS IS IMPORTANT. For License server enter anything but something, you will be replacing it in Step 3, below.
  8. Pre-Installation Summary Review the information and Select Install.
  9. Installing...
  10. Activation (skipped with the Network License)
  11. Install Complete
  1. Pre-Installation Summary: Review the information and Select Install.
  2. Install Complete Select No. You are not yet done with the tethered installation. You still need to replace the license.dat file, see the next Step.

Step 3 Download and Replace the license file: Right Click the license.dat link, select Save Link As, and replace the license file in the \license folder in the directory where Maple 12 is installed. The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\Maple 12\license. If there is already a file in that folder, replace it with the downloaded copy.

[edit] Mac OS X Install:

Step 2. Run the Maple 12 Installer after mounting Maple12.dmg.

  1. Authorization Unlock the installer by clicking the lock symbol and entering your computer Admin information.
  2. License After the introduction and accepting the license agreement, select Network License.
  3. Server Information Type 1727@zorin.cae.wisc.edu in the license server. Click next to install and then click done when installation is finished.

Step 3: After finished installing, you will need to replace the license file on your Mac with the license file located in the Maple folder within the kamino tethered network drive. Or download it here: Right Click the license.dat link and download linked file. For Maple 12 the address to save the "license.dat" file to is:

Mac HD\Library\Framework\Maple.framework\version\12\license\

Note files on kamino are available to UW-Madison IP addresses only. You may need to use WiscVPN if access from off campus.

[edit] Authorize and Run

Note: In order for tethered software to function properly your workstation must be continuously connected to the network and the CAE license servers.
