Tethered Installations

Step 1. Before you Begin the Installation:

  • Map a network drive to the CAE media server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered. NOTE: You must install WiscVPN to connect to CAE media server from off of the campus network.
  • Authorize your computer to use tethered software. Use your CAE username and password to gain access to CAE tethered licensing. Each authorization has a duration of 12 hours.

Step 2. Start the Installer. When installing directly from kamino run \\kamino\tethered\Autodesk 2009\AutoCAD 2009\setup.exe. Otherwise the installation media can be downloaded from our campus server \\kamino.cae.wisc.edu\tethered.

IMPORTANT decisions to make during the installation process:

  • Select Install Products Perform a standard installation on this workstation. [image 10]
  • Enter Serial Number of 400-00000000
  • Select Configure in order to install as tethered software. [image 13]
    • Select Network License
    • Select Single License Server
    • Enter anything as the license server name. (This will be replaced in the Post Installation process.)


Step 3. Post Installation

  • Download the LICPATH.LIC file.
  • The first time you run AutoCAD 2009, Select Specify the License File [image 7]. Browse to the downloaded LICPATH.LIC file.

Note: In order for tethered software to function properly your workstation must be continuously connected to the network and the CAE license servers.

License configuration problems? If you have license server problems: Download the LICPATH.LIC file and replace the existing LICPATH.LIC file in the AutoCAD installation folder, generally found in the Program Files folder. This corrected file can also be download from the CAE media server (kamino) in the Autodesk 2009 folder.

Alternate method to fix licensing problems: Create an Environmental Variable named: lm_license_file with the value of: 27101@license-1.cae.wisc.edu

All Autodesk products use the same license service. So the configuration is the same for all Autodesk products.

If the installation process does not ask for licensing information, you are installing the product incorrectly. Please see a CAE consultant to ensure you are running the correct installation script.
